My turn on the #BlogTour for #TheNancys by @rwrmcdonald published by @orendabooks #NancyDrew #Mystery #NewZealand #MeetTheNancys #WhatWouldNancyDo

Tippy Chan is eleven years old, and she lives in a small town in a very
quiet part of New Zealand– the town her Uncle Pike escaped as a
teenager, the moment he got a chance. Now Pike is back with his new
boyfriend Devon to look after Tippy while her mum is on a Christmas
cruise.
Tippy can’t get enough of her uncle’s old Nancy Drew books. She wants
to be Nancy and is desperate to solve a real mystery. So, when her
teacher’s body is found beside Riverstone’s only traffic light, it looks like
Tippy’s moment has arrived. She and her minders form The Nancys, a
secret detective club.
But what starts as a bonding and sightseeing adventure quickly morphs
into something far more dangerous. A wrongful arrest, a close call with
the murderer, and an intervention from Tippy’s mum all conspire against
The Nancys. But regardless of their own safety, and despite the constant
distraction of questionable fashion choices in the town that style forgot,
The Nancys know only they can stop the killer from striking again.
Whatever the cost…

My Review –

Huge thanks to Orenda Books for my proof copy of The Nancys and to Anne Cater for organising this Blog Tour.

I just knew before I read The Nancys that i would adore it, i call it my book super power when i can just tell from the cover! And holy smokes, I wasnt disappointed!

The Nancys is a story of Tippy Chen and her 11 year old life in a small queit New Zealand town, where nothing happens… or so she used to think! When her Mum wins a cruise holiday, she decides to invite her brother – Pike aka Uncle Pike and his boyfriend Devon to stay and look after Tippy for a couple of weeks, which sounds like an easy gig apart from the fact that Pike left as soon as he could when he was a teenager to live in the big city, so coming ‘Home’ isnt easy for him. And when Tippys teacher is found brutally murdered, the quiet town seems to start to swell with mystery and intrigue. Tippy being a huge fan of Nancy Drew (Like her Uncle) decides they need to investigate and after a few false starts ‘The Nancys’ are born.!

What follows is an absolutely riotously hilarious novel that had me crying with laughter from the very first pages ( Uncle Pike is a big gay Santa Clause double!) , i adored the three main characters of Tippy (an awkward, intelligent child starting to grow into a bright, confident teen) Uncle Pike ( a hilariously dry witted, big hearted man) and Devon ( a fantastically camp and boistoruous Queen who adored Pike!).. even the supporting cast are wonderful. The story is fast moving, and thrilling with spikes of emotion and sadness wrapped up in the glittery love of a diverse family, and the banter and humour that comes with it.

I adored The Nancys, I didnt want it to end, this book was like a big huge hug of a book and a absolute joy to read. Im giving it 10 out of 5 stars and its in contention for my book of the year!
